Snyder Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church, Gothic Revival church in downtown Jacksonville, United States.
Snyder Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church is a Gothic Revival style church building located in downtown Jacksonville. The structure features a crenelated bell tower and a rose window that face James Weldon Johnson Park, situated at the corner of Laura and Monroe streets.
The church was built in 1903 after its predecessor, Trinity Methodist Episcopal Church, was destroyed during the Jacksonville Fire of 1901. The reconstruction represented an important renewal of the Methodist community's presence in the city.
The church building served as a gathering place where important conversations about civil rights took place during a troubled time in the city's past.
The building is open to visitors during the monthly Downtown Art Walk events and can also be viewed from outside year-round. It is easily accessible from Laura Street in the heart of Jacksonville's historic downtown area.
The building was named after former pastor E.B. Snyder, whose family supported the reconstruction efforts following the 1901 fire. The use of granite and Indiana limestone gives the structure its distinctive appearance.
