Built in 1925 as the Carling Hotel, the building served as a luxury accommodation until a devastating fire in 1963 led to its closure.
The Italian Renaissance design by Thompson, Holmes & Converse represents the architectural standards of 1920s American commercial buildings in growing urban centers.
The building contains residential apartments following a complete renovation in 2005, with 15,000 square feet of commercial space in the ground floor arcade.
The structure's placement in the middle of a city block, rather than on a corner, marked an unconventional choice for 1920s hotel construction.
