Joseph Wheeler High School, high school in Georgia, United States
Joseph Wheeler High School is a public high school in Cobb County, Georgia, serving students in grades 9 through 12. The campus spans several buildings with classrooms, science labs, and athletic fields spread across the grounds.
The school is named after Joseph Wheeler, a Confederate general and later a U.S. congressman who also served in the Spanish-American War. It was established to meet the growing need for secondary education in the northwest suburbs of Atlanta as the area developed through the mid-20th century.
Since this is an active school, public access is generally limited outside of scheduled events and visitors should contact the main office before arriving. Parking is available on site, but spaces fill quickly on event days.
Joseph Wheeler is one of the few figures in American history to have held high military rank in two opposing forces, first as a Confederate general and then as a U.S. Army general during the war with Spain. This rare dual legacy is the reason his name appears on a school in the same region where he once fought against the United States.
