Zion Baptist Church is a brick building constructed in 1888, replacing an earlier wooden church house on the same site. The congregation moved to a new building across the street in 1978, and the 1888 structure was restored and is now shown on tours.

The church was established in 1866 when members founded a new congregation separate from another church in the area. The brick building that still stands today was constructed in 1888.

The congregation began in 1866 with 88 members who had left First Baptist Church, many of them formerly enslaved. The restored 1888 brick building is now used for tours and occasionally for weddings rather than regular worship, since the congregation moved to a new building across the street in 1978.
