Steven's Creek Heritage Preserve

Steven's Creek Heritage Preserve is a protected nature area covering 434 acres in South Carolina with wetlands, forested sections, and open meadows along the Savannah River. These different habitats support native plants and animals adapted to the region's ecology.

The site became a protected area to safeguard its natural ecosystems and rare plant species found within its boundaries. Scientific research in the 1950s identified the botanical importance of the location.

The preserve maintains educational trails with informational signs detailing local ecology, making it a center for environmental education and nature research.

The main trail spans roughly two kilometers over natural ground with steps throughout the route. Visitors will find parking areas, restrooms, and river access points available on site.

The soil here registers a neutral pH near 7, which is quite rare in this region. Most soils elsewhere in South Carolina are considerably more acidic, measuring below pH 5.
