Fort Eisenhower, Military base in Augusta, Georgia, US
Fort Eisenhower stretches across a large territory southwest of Augusta and serves as headquarters for the United States Army Signal Corps and Cyber Command. The facility includes training sites, residential areas, administrative buildings and recreation centers that cover several square miles and host thousands of soldiers, civilian employees and family members daily.
The site opened in 1941 as Camp Gordon and served as a training facility for three divisions during World War II, also holding prisoners of war. Later the base was renamed Fort Gordon in honor of a Confederate general and became Fort Eisenhower in 2023 to honor the former president.
Sections of the Berlin Wall stand in Freedom Park and bring the Cold War era into direct view for soldiers and visitors who walk past. This monument serves as a place of memory and as a lesson that military units include in their training when discussing global events.
Visitors need permission to enter the grounds because this is an active military base where security checks and identification are standard. The Woodworth Library, Eisenhower Lakes Golf Club and a 24-lane bowling center are available to military personnel and can be used by guests under certain conditions.
The facility operates around the clock and merges conventional signal training with modern cyber warfare operations in a consolidated communications center. This combination of old and new technologies makes the location a hub where soldiers learn both classic signal transmission and digital defense at the same time.
