Shaking Rock Park

Shaking Rock Park, Natural granite formation park in Lexington, Georgia, United States.

Shaking Rock Park is a natural park in Lexington featuring several large granite boulders scattered throughout the landscape. The main formation weighs approximately 27 tons, and walking trails connect different areas so visitors can explore the geological structures.

The location was originally used as a camping ground by Cherokee and Creek tribes before European settlers arrived in the region. The park was established in 1968 to preserve this historically significant land.

The park was created in 1968 when the Lexington Women's Club worked with local families to donate land for public use. This place shows how community effort shaped a gathering space for the town.

The park is free to enter and has walking trails that guide you through the grounds. Wear comfortable shoes and stay on the marked paths to safely explore the rock formations.

The central boulder gave the park its name because it could originally be moved by hand pressure, until natural forces locked it in place over time. This moveable quality no longer exists, but it shows how delicately balanced the granite formation once was.
