Santee State Park, State park on Lake Marion, South Carolina
Santee State Park is a nature preserve stretching along Lake Marion's shores with over 2,000 hectares and extensive water access. Cypress forests dominate the landscape while trails wind through the grounds and boat tours operate across the water.
The park was created in 1942 during a period of regional development in South Carolina. It has served as a recreation area for local residents for many decades since.
The park stands as a central gathering point for fishing enthusiasts from across North America who seek trophy catfish and striped bass in Lake Marion.
The park offers 30 rental cabins for visitors, with 10 built on piers above the water and available for advance reservation. The grounds are accessible by marked roads and equipped for various activities throughout the year.
Sinkholes appear along the hiking trails here as a geological feature of the region. Visitors can also take guided pontoon tours through submerged cypress trees, which creates an unusual viewing experience.
