Santee State Park, State park on Lake Marion, South Carolina
Santee State Park covers 2,500 acres on the western edge of Lake Marion in the South Carolina Sandhills, off SC 6 about three miles northwest of Santee and I-95. The park has two campgrounds, 30 two-bedroom cabins (10 on piers over the lake), three hiking trails and a seven-mile biking trail.
The park was created in 1942 during a period of regional development in South Carolina. It has served as a recreation area for local residents for many decades since.
Anglers come to Santee State Park for record-size largemouth bass, along with striped bass, channel catfish, crappie, shellcrackers and bream. Two boat ramps in the park give access to Lake Marion, and the park's 2,500 acres sit on its western edge off SC 6.
Santee State Park lies off SC 6, three miles northwest of the town of Santee and I-95. Two boat ramps give access to Lake Marion, and the 7-mile biking trail plus three hiking trails of 1, 1 and 0.5 miles start from the grounds. Cypress View Campground has 50 sites and Lakeshore Campground 108, both with restrooms and hot showers; many sites take RVs up to 40 feet.
The park's Sinkhole Pond Nature Trail, a half-mile loop, is named for a sinkhole pond, a geological feature of the South Carolina Sandhills. Ten of the park's 30 rondette cabins stand on piers over Lake Marion, and two boat ramps give access to the 110,000-acre lake.
