Fort Ord Dunes State Park

Fort Ord Dunes State Park extends across 1000 acres of protected coastal land, featuring 4 miles of beach frontage along Monterey Bay.

The land transformed from a military training facility to a public park in 2009 through the Federal Lands to Parks program at no cost.

Eight educational panels at the main parking area present information about the former U.S. Army base and natural history of the region.

The park remains accessible for day use from 8:00 AM until sunset, offering trails for hiking and biking along the Pacific Ocean.

The protected dunes serve as nesting grounds for multiple species, requiring visitors to remain on designated paths to preserve these environments.
