Frontier Village, Western-themed amusement park in San Jose, United States.
Frontier Village was an amusement park in San Jose that recreated a Western town with wooden buildings spread across its grounds. Daily gunfight performances on Main Street, railroad rides through the central area, and various themed attractions formed the core visitor experience.
The park opened in 1961 and operated as a family destination through the 1970s before closing in 1980. Its creation came about when the founder acquired land in what was then a less developed area of the region.
The Silver Dollar Saloon hosted regular Can-Can dancer performances that became a signature attraction for visitors. Famous entertainers including Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole performed there, drawing crowds from across the region.
The park offered free parking and camera loans to visitors, making it easy to document the experience. An internal railroad connected different areas and helped guests move around the grounds comfortably.
After the park closed, an artist created miniature versions of the buildings as birdhouses and installed them at their original locations. These handcrafted structures turned the abandoned grounds into an unexpected gallery of art and local memory.
