Hayes Mansion, Mediterranean mansion in Edenvale, San Jose, United States.
Hayes Mansion is a former family estate in the Edenvale neighborhood of San Jose, California, now operated as a hotel. The building covers more than 3,800 square meters (41,000 square feet) and includes 62 rooms designed in Mediterranean and Spanish Colonial Revival styles from 1905.
The Hayes family built this residence after their earlier Victorian Queen Anne style house burned down in 1899. Architect George Page designed the new building, which was completed in 1905.
The name comes from the Hayes family, who built their fortune through fruit farming and canning in the Santa Clara Valley. Visitors today can see the wood-paneled rooms and colored glass windows that show how wealthy California business owners lived in the early 1900s.
The estate sits in southern San Jose and is easily reachable by car. The interior spaces are now open to hotel guests and event attendees, while the outdoor grounds are part of the hotel property.
The floor plan of the building forms a Maltese Cross shape, with separate wings connected by a covered walkway. A glass-enclosed passage links the main structure to a separate kitchen building, originally passing through a plant conservatory.
