San Mateo–Hayward Bridge, Toll bridge in San Francisco Bay, United States.
The San Mateo-Hayward Bridge extends 11,265 meters across San Francisco Bay, connecting the Peninsula with the East Bay through reinforced concrete structures.
The bridge opened in October 1967 and replaced an earlier structure from 1929. It was built to handle growing traffic between the Peninsula and the East Bay.
The bridge forms part of the California State Route 92, representing a critical transportation link that shaped the development of Bay Area communities.
More than 90,000 vehicles cross daily, with toll collection on the western San Mateo side. The drive passes over flat water and offers open views of the bay and surrounding hills.
During construction, a custom-built floating crane called Marine Boss was used to lift heavy concrete sections. This equipment was designed specifically for this project.
