Moraga, Residential town in Contra Costa County, California
Moraga is a residential community in Contra Costa County in the eastern San Francisco Bay Area. The town spreads across wooded hills and valleys between Lafayette and Orinda and features neighborhoods and public parks.
The area formed part of an 1835 Mexican land grant called Rancho Laguna de los Palos Colorados under Joaquin Moraga and Juan Bernal. Later development began in the late 19th century with agriculture and took its current form after World War II with residential construction.
Saint Mary's College brings student activity and campus sports events to the area throughout the year. The college sits nestled in the hills and shapes daily community life with its presence and public facilities.
Walking trails and parks lie scattered throughout the community and provide access to the surrounding nature. Town administration on Rheem Boulevard answers questions about events and community services during regular office hours.
The Lafayette-Moraga Regional Trail follows the former route of the Sacramento Northern Railroad from the early 20th century. The path now connects several communities and allows walks through wooded hills along the old rail bed.
