Goodman Library

Goodman Library is a downtown Napa building with rusticated stone walls, round arch windows, and a solid architectural form. It now houses the Napa County Historical Society, which operates research facilities and display spaces within the structure.

George E. Goodman funded construction in 1901 and hired architect Luther M. Turton to design the structure. The project represented a shift away from Victorian architecture toward a more modern approach.

The building carries the name of its original benefactor and continues to serve as a community gathering place in downtown Napa. People come here to access resources and view exhibits about the region's past, making it a working part of local life.

The building is easily walkable from downtown Napa and has parking nearby. Visitors can explore the exhibitions and archives at a relaxed pace during regular business hours.

The building survived the 2014 earthquake and underwent major renovation work that included structural improvements and a new roof. This restoration showed how to preserve the original character while making it work for modern use.
