Napa

Napa sits in California's wine region and is crossed by the river that divides the center into two parts. Many tasting rooms and restaurants line the downtown streets between historic buildings and modern shops.

Nathan Coombs founded the settlement in 1847, and its position along the river made it a trade center for nearby farms. The town received its official charter in 1872, when wine production was already growing in importance.

The Oxbow Public Market gathers local vendors selling regional specialties, from fresh oysters to handcrafted chocolate. This market hall showcases Northern California's culinary traditions in one central location.

Several tasting rooms sit within a short walk from the center and often offer extended evening hours. Many combine wine samples with small dishes or local products for a more complete experience.

Edwin Pridham and Peter Jensen developed the first moving-coil loudspeaker in their workshop here in 1915. This invention laid the foundation for modern audio technology and music playback.
