Graduate Theological Union, group of eight private American theological schools
The Graduate Theological Union is a private, not-for-profit educational institution in Berkeley that offers research and teaching in religion and theology. The campus includes multiple buildings with a large library, seminar rooms, and centers dedicated to studying different religious traditions.
The institution was founded in 1962 with the idea that different Christian churches should share resources and learn from each other. Over the decades, it has expanded to include non-Christian traditions such as Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, and Hinduism in its programs.
The school brings together eight different religious traditions in one location, including Christian, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, and Muslim communities. Students and faculty from around the world create a space where people learn from each other and discuss different beliefs openly.
The campus is easily accessible by public transit and bike paths that lead directly to the main entrance. Parking is available nearby, and visitors should sign in upon arrival and bring a valid ID.
The Flora Lamson Hewlett Library is one of the world's largest theological libraries and houses collections from nine different seminaries in one location. Researchers and visitors can explore hundreds of thousands of books on religious topics, making this place a unique resource for theological studies.
