University House, Berkeley

University House is a Mediterranean villa on the University of California, Berkeley campus, featuring a triple-arched entrance portico, round bays with balustrades, and two stories. The building contains reception areas and private living quarters that show how a historic residence functioned.

Architect Albert Pissis designed the building in 1901, with construction completed in 1911. The property was created as a residence for University President Benjamin Wheeler's family.

The house displays Mediterranean architecture with artwork borrowed from the Berkeley Art Museum collection. These elements shape how the rooms feel and create a refined environment throughout the residence.

The property spans two and a half acres with formal gardens, including a rose garden and greenhouse. The site can host events with up to 300 guests and is best visited during warmer months.

The gardens contain a topiary clock that was received as a gift from the Swiss government. This unusual artwork adds a distinctive character to the landscape design.
