Cameron Park, Census-designated place in El Dorado County, California, United States.
Cameron Park is a residential community nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills of El Dorado County, located roughly 30 miles east of Sacramento. The area features hillside neighborhoods, parks, and local amenities that create a typical suburban landscape with a mix of single-family homes and open spaces.
The area was developed starting in the 1950s when Larry Cameron purchased thousands of acres of foothill land and began converting it from ranch property into a residential community. This shift from agricultural use to suburban housing shaped the place into what it is today.
The Nisenan people, also known as the Southern Maidu, lived here for generations and left behind grinding rocks and burial mounds that you can still find scattered across the land. These sites tell the story of the first inhabitants who shaped this place long before modern development.
Visitors can use the main lake for walking, picnicking, and recreational activities throughout the year. The area is easy to reach by car and has parking available at various spots, with public facilities spread across different neighborhoods.
The main lake spans about 10 acres and hosts annual community festivals like the Summer Spectacular and Ribstock barbecue celebration. These events draw residents together and make the lake the center of local social life.
