Umpqua River Bridge, Historic swing bridge in Reedsport, US.

The Umpqua River Bridge stretches over 2,200 feet across the Umpqua River, featuring a central swing span with reinforced concrete arches on each end.

Constructed between 1934 and 1936 with Public Works Administration funding, the bridge marked the transition from maritime to land transportation in coastal Oregon.

Engineer Conde B. McCullough incorporated architectural elements into the bridge design, demonstrating the integration of function and structural engineering in public infrastructure.

The bridge serves as a critical connection point on U.S. Route 101, allowing both vehicle traffic and maritime vessels to navigate through the waterway.

This structure stands as the only remaining swing-span bridge in the Oregon state highway system, with construction costs reaching $510,500 in 1936.
