The Knight Library contains more than 3 million volumes spread across multiple floors, serving as the main facility of University of Oregon Libraries.
Ellis F. Lawrence designed this Art Deco library building, which opened in 1937 through funding from the Public Works Administration during the Depression.
The building incorporates Latin inscriptions above large windows representing seven disciplines: Philosophia, Historia, Religio, Ars, Natura, Societas, and Litterae.
Students and employees access the library from 8:00 AM to 2:00 AM, while public visitors can enter between 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM on weekdays.
The library preserves over 3,000 collections of primary sources, including rare books, manuscripts, original art, photographs, and University of Oregon archives.
