Deady and Villard Halls, Academic buildings at University of Oregon, Eugene, United States

Deady Hall and Villard Hall are two university buildings with Second Empire architecture, marked by curved roof lines and ornate stone-like surfaces. The facades show characteristic features of this style with decorative details around windows and entries.

The two buildings were built between 1873 and 1876 and were the first structures to rise on the university grounds. They mark the beginning of the campus's physical development.

The theater program at Villard Hall maintains performance spaces where students and visitors regularly encounter theatrical productions. These rooms show how the historic building supports active creative work on campus today.

Access to the buildings is through the university campus grounds, with regular campus tours available for visitors. It is best to explore the interiors when public campus tours take place.

The two structures received National Historic Landmark designation in 1977 and rank among the oldest remaining academic buildings on the West Coast. This recognition honors their importance in early American university history.
