Gerlinger Hall, University building in Eugene, United States
Gerlinger Hall is a building on the University of Oregon campus featuring Georgian Revival architecture with gambrel roofs and exterior brick walls. The three-story structure houses multiple facilities including classrooms, ballrooms, a swimming pool, and an alumni hall for various campus activities.
Construction of the building was completed in 1921 following a successful fundraising campaign led by Irene Hazard Gerlinger starting in 1913. This effort allowed the university to create a major new facility dedicated to serving female students.
The building is part of the Women's Memorial Quadrangle Ensemble and reflects early efforts to provide educational spaces for women at the university. Its existence shows how the institution prioritized creating dedicated facilities for female students.
The building is easily accessible across campus and gives visitors a clear view of the architecture from this period. Various public areas can be visited during regular weekdays, though some spaces are reserved for specific campus functions.
The top floor served temporarily as a girls' dormitory during the 1940s while the campus made adjustments for male students. This repurposing shows how flexibly the university adapted the building to changing needs.
