Parents of Murdered Children Memorial, Memorial monument in Mountain View Cemetery, Oregon City, US.
The Parents of Murdered Children Memorial is a remembrance site in Mountain View Cemetery designed to honor those who have passed. It features a curved wall with benches, towering basalt columns, a stone spiral pathway, and a water feature that flow throughout the space.
The memorial was dedicated in September 2013 and was the first of its kind in the Pacific Northwest region. It marked a significant moment in how the nation recognized and remembered victims of violence.
The memorial wall records the names of children from Oregon and Washington who died because of violence. Visitors come to remember these young people and reflect on their loss.
The site is located in the northwest section of Mountain View Cemetery and can be reached easily from the main entrance. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the spiral stone pathway encourages walking and reflection throughout the space.
Mary Elledge, who lost her son Rob to violence, led the effort to establish this place through the Portland chapter of Parents of Murdered Children. Her personal story helped other grieving families create a space where their losses could be shared and acknowledged.
