Woodstock Library

Woodstock Library is a public library located in southeast Portland at SE 49th Avenue. The building spans about 7,500 square feet with bright spaces and open areas designed for studying and reading.

The library began in 1908 as a reading room inside a fire station before becoming an official branch in 1917. Its move to the current location marked an important step in its development as a community facility.

The library serves its diverse neighborhood through collections in multiple languages and multilingual staff who help visitors of different backgrounds. This approach makes it a place where people from various communities can find resources and support in their own language.

The library is open Monday through Wednesday until 8 PM, with additional hours on weekends. A 24-hour book return system is available outside regular hours for easy access anytime.

The library runs a therapy dog program where children practice reading skills by reading aloud to trained canine companions. This unusual offering transforms reading practice into an engaging and interactive experience for young visitors.
