Wind Gate, Bronze sculpture at Reed College campus, Portland, US
Three angular bronze forms extend outward from a central void, creating a dynamic composition measuring twelve feet high and seven feet wide.
American artist Hilda Grossman Morris created the sculpture between 1967 and 1968 in Pietrasanta, Italy, before its permanent installation at Reed College in 1980.
The sculpture combines abstract expressionist principles with architectural elements, reflecting Morris's connection to the Northwest School art movement of the mid-twentieth century.
The bronze structure stands in front of Eliot Hall at Reed College, where visitors can examine the interplay between solid forms and negative space.
Morris incorporated mathematical concepts and organic structures into the design, making it her largest sculpture at the time of completion.
