Forest Park, Urban forest in Portland, United States.
Forest Park is a large wooded area on the eastern slope of the Tualatin Mountains with an extensive network of trails for hiking. The terrain consists mainly of dense forest with multiple entry points and connects several notable destinations in the region.
The vision to preserve this forest as a natural area began in the 1800s through the efforts of local citizens. Official establishment occurred in the 1940s after land acquisitions had been assembled over several decades.
Local residents use the forest as a retreat for daily walks and nature activities throughout the seasons. The trails connect different neighborhoods and serve as gathering places where people experience the natural side of city living.
There are several access points throughout Northwest Portland where you can begin exploring the trail system. Information boards at main trailheads help with navigation and choosing routes that match your ability level.
The forest is home to an exceptionally tall Douglas-fir that stands out as one of the largest trees in the entire reserve. This particular specimen demonstrates the impressive scale of conifers that thrive in this woodland environment.
