German immigrant Hulda Klager began hybridizing lilacs in the early 1900s, leading to national recognition for her horticultural achievements in 1938.
The gardens function as an educational center where visitors learn about plant cultivation techniques while exploring the extensive collection of lilac species.
The garden welcomes visitors daily from 9 AM to 4 PM except Wednesdays and holidays, with admission costing 10 dollars for adults.
A new museum opened in 2023 houses exhibits about Klager's work, while the annual Lilac Days event allows visitors to purchase rare lilac varieties.
