Schafer State Park, State park on Satsop River in Mason County, United States.
Schafer State Park is a 119-acre park along the Satsop River in the Satsop Hills region of Mason County. The grounds stretch for two miles through river forests with hiking trails winding through the landscape.
The land was donated to Washington State by the Schafer Brothers Logging Company in 1924, the first timber company gift for park purposes. This transfer marked a turning point in how the region approached conservation.
The grounds hosted large company picnics between 1920 and 1940, when thousands gathered for community celebrations beneath the trees. These events shaped how the region understood leisure and togetherness for generations to come.
The park has 32 tent sites and 10 utility spaces equipped with showers, water stations, and covered picnic shelters for day visitors. Facilities are well-organized and accessible for families and groups of any size.
Steelhead, cutthroat trout, and salmon thrive in the Satsop River, sustaining traditional fishing practices that continue year-round. The water remains naturally abundant with fish throughout the seasons.
