Salmon Run Bell Tower, Bell tower in Esther Short Park, Vancouver, US
The Salmon Run Bell Tower is a 69-foot-tall structure with a clock and glockenspiel diorama at Propstra Square in Vancouver, Washington. The musical mechanism displays stories about the Chinookan peoples throughout the day.
The bell tower was dedicated in 2002 and stands in Washington's oldest public park. The project was funded by philanthropist George Propstra, who shaped the site's development.
Bronze salmon sculptures surround the tower base and represent the Chinookan peoples' relationship with the Columbia River. These figures make the region's indigenous heritage visible to visitors walking through the park.
The tower is located at the southeast corner of Esther Short Park near the intersection of 6th and Columbia Street. Ongoing restoration work is scheduled to continue through 2025.
The structure incorporates a specialized water feature that complements the art installation and serves multiple functions throughout the day. This element sets the tower apart from typical public sculptures in the area.
