Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge

Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge is a nature preserve in southern Washington featuring wetlands, forests, and grasslands at the base of Mount Adams. The area encompasses diverse habitats that attract and support different animal species.

The refuge was established to protect habitats for birds and other wildlife. The region also shows traces of pioneers who settled here in the 19th century.

The Yakama Nation has used this place for thousands of years to gather food sources, especially camas roots in spring. Today, archaeological sites stand as reminders of this deep connection between Native peoples and the land.

You can observe wildlife from county roads or hike along marked trails. The best time to visit depends on which animals or season you want to experience.

The area is home to one of the few remaining populations of the Oregon spotted frog in Washington. This rare frog species was rediscovered here in the early 1990s.
