Quatsino Provincial Park, Provincial park on Quatsino Sound, northern Vancouver Island, Canada
Quatsino Provincial Park covers 654 hectares on the north side of Quatsino Sound on Vancouver Island. It contains old-growth forests, small lakes, and Koprino Harbour, a sheltered inlet where the water stays calm.
The area was officially designated a provincial park in 1995 to protect fish nurseries and waterfowl habitats along the Pacific coast. This protection status recognized the ecological value of this coastal zone.
The land is home to the Kwakwaka'wakw people, whose connection to these coastal waters runs deep through generations. Archaeological sites scattered throughout the park show how long people have lived here.
You can reach the park by logging roads from Holberg or by water from Winter Harbour, Coal Harbour, and Port Alice. Plan for rough roads and water travel since the park is quite remote.
The Koprino River estuary is a key nesting and feeding site for a large population of bald eagles. These birds are so numerous here that seeing them is almost guaranteed during a visit.
