Lake Quinault Lodge, hotel
Lake Quinault Lodge is a Pacific lodge-style accommodation on the shore of Lake Quinault in Washington State. The large wooden building has guest rooms facing the water, along with a restaurant and shared spaces in the main building.
The lodge was built in 1926 and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places for decades. It was one of the first tourist accommodations built in this remote part of the Pacific Northwest.
The lodge sits on the shore of a lake surrounded by temperate rainforest and has long drawn visitors who come to experience the feel of the Pacific Northwest outdoors. The wood-paneled interiors, large fireplace, and wide veranda are part of what makes this place feel rooted in the regional style of national park lodges.
The lodge is only reachable by car and sits well outside any major town, so booking ahead is strongly recommended, especially in summer. The surrounding area is wet and cool for much of the year, so waterproof and warm clothing is a good idea regardless of the season.
Lake Quinault Lodge is known as a place where several US presidents have stayed, including Franklin D. Roosevelt, who visited in 1937 and shortly after signed legislation creating Olympic National Park. The connection between that visit and the park's creation is still mentioned locally today.
