Templeton Secondary School, Secondary school building in Grandview-Woodland, East Vancouver, Canada
Templeton Secondary School is a three-story reinforced concrete school building in the Grandview-Woodland neighborhood of Vancouver, with a roughcast stucco exterior painted in purple and grey and large banks of windows. The grounds surrounding the building include open sports fields and are bordered by mature trees.
The school opened in 1927 as Templeton Junior High School, serving younger students in a then-growing residential area. It was restructured in 1962 to become a full secondary school, expanding to cover grades 8 through 12.
The school sits in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Vancouver, and this shows in the daily life on campus, where students from many different backgrounds cross paths. Murals and student artwork displayed around the building reflect the range of voices that make up the school community.
The building is in a residential area with good public transit access and is easy to reach on foot from nearby stops. Since this is an active school, access to the grounds is generally limited to school hours and authorized visitors.
The school grounds border the Trans-Canada Trail directly, one of the longest recreational routes in the country, which makes this one of the few schools in Vancouver where students can step off campus and onto a national trail in seconds. This connection gives the site a character that sets it apart from most urban schools.
