Coast Meridian Overpass, Cable-stayed bridge in Port Coquitlam, Canada.
The Coast Meridian Overpass is a cable-stayed bridge that crosses over the railway yard and Lougheed Highway in Port Coquitlam. The structure carries four traffic lanes along with separate paths for bicycles and pedestrians.
The bridge was built from 2008 to 2010 to connect the northern and southern areas of Port Coquitlam. The project employed innovative techniques to construct over active railway lines.
The structure received recognition through the 2012 ACEC National Award for its contribution to regional transportation infrastructure and community development.
The bridge has a speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour and accommodates vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. Users should know that the crossing is multi-lane and offers clear sight lines.
Engineers used a push-launch system to move the bridge sections over more than 50 railway tracks during construction. This allowed train operations below to continue without interruption.
