Magnuson Park, Public park in northeast Seattle, United States
Magnuson Park is a 350-acre park stretching along Lake Washington's shoreline in northeast Seattle. The space features walking trails throughout, with sports fields and open grass areas available for outdoor recreation.
The site began as Sand Point Naval Air Station in 1922, serving military operations for several decades. After the city acquired the land in 1970, it converted the former military grounds into a park for public use.
The park preserves several brick buildings from the 1930s that reflect its military past as a naval air station. Today, Hangar 30, the largest of these structures, serves as a community gathering space where locals hold events and celebrations.
The park features baseball fields, tennis courts, swimming beaches, and boat launches for visitors to use. There are also designated off-leash dog areas and varied pathways suitable for different outdoor activities.
The park contains restored wetlands that support more than 170 bird species in their natural habitat. Walking paths wind through these ecological zones, allowing visitors to observe the area's biological richness.
