Mission, Municipality in Fraser Valley, British Columbia, Canada.
Mission is a municipality in Fraser Valley Regional District in British Columbia and sits on the north bank of the Fraser River between forested mountains. From the upper part of town, views stretch across the wide river valley to the opposite slopes.
A Catholic mission station was established here in 1861 and later gave the town its name. The municipality was formally created in 1892 following a large land sale.
The local basilica with large windows stands on raised grounds and gathers residents during various religious and community gatherings. Many buildings carry French names that recall the town's origin.
Hiking trails begin at several points along the main road and lead into the forested slopes above town. Public buses connect the municipality with neighboring towns across the Fraser Valley.
An old railway crossing spans the river and was later converted into a road bridge until it closed in 1973. A monitoring station near the bridge tracks water levels in the Fraser River.
