Durlin Hotel, Hotel in den Vereinigten Staaten
The Durlin Hotel is a Spanish Colonial Revival structure rebuilt in 1924 on Main Street in Oatman, Arizona, featuring eight rooms and characteristic elements such as stucco walls and red tile roofs. It stands as the only two-story adobe building in Mohave County, with warm earthy colors and narrow inviting hallways that reflect its age and careful upkeep.
A fire in 1921 destroyed the original Durlin Hotel built in 1902 and most of Oatman's structures. The building rose again in 1924 and thrived with miners and Route 66 travelers until the mining industry collapsed in the 1920s, leading the town to shift toward tourism.
The building carries memories of the mining era and serves as a gathering place where visitors connect with Oatman's past. The signed dollar bills covering parts of the saloon walls represent a tradition miners started as a playful way to leave their mark on the place.
The hotel sits on Main Street in downtown Oatman and is easy to reach on foot while walking through the historic town center. Although it no longer offers overnight stays, visitors can explore its bar, restaurant, and small museum to learn more about local history.
Famous actors Clark Gable and Carole Lombard spent their honeymoon there in 1939 and later returned to play poker with local miners. The building has a reputation for ghostly happenings, with guests reporting unexplained activity in rooms and the saloon.
