Fremont Street, Historic thoroughfare in Downtown Las Vegas, United States.
Fremont Street is a thoroughfare in Downtown Las Vegas, United States, now functioning as a covered pedestrian mall. The digital LED canopy spans four blocks overhead and displays evening light shows with animated sequences.
The street originated in 1905 as the city's first commercial district and housed the earliest casinos and hotels. During the 1990s, it was closed to traffic and fitted with the current electronic canopy system.
Street performers often approach passersby directly, offering photo opportunities in a daily ritual of entertainment culture. Live music echoes from several venues simultaneously, creating a constant sound layer across the entire pedestrian zone.
Public buses stop at several points along the area, providing direct access from other city neighborhoods. The pedestrian zone remains open all night, with main activity occurring after dark.
A zipline called SlotZilla carries visitors at 77 feet (23 meters) directly beneath the LED canopy along the pedestrian zone. The lower zipline variant runs closer to ground level and offers a slower ride through the crowd.
