Fremont Street Experience is a covered pedestrian promenade stretching across five city blocks in the historic center of Las Vegas, United States. The walkway sits beneath a continuous overhead structure that shields visitors from direct sun, with shops, restaurants and casinos lining both sides of the street.
The street transformation began in the mid-nineties as an effort to revive the old gambling center of Las Vegas. The covered zone opened just before Christmas and aimed to bring visitors back downtown after years of attention focused solely on the large hotel properties along the boulevard.
The name "Glitter Gulch" comes from the neon signs that once lit the western end of Fremont Street, the stretch filmmakers used to show Las Vegas lights. Concerts are usually free and take place on three stages, not daily. The street also hosts the city's annual New Year's Eve party.
The street remains open around the clock with multiple entry points, allowing visitors to come and go freely at any time. Evening hours bring regular light and sound shows overhead, while daytime tends to be quieter and easier for wandering between casinos.
SlotZilla, the zip line at the east end, takes riders from a launch deck 12 stories up, and some fly seated while others lie flat, face down. The ride is named after the slot machines of the casinos below, and it opened after the canopy was already in place.
