Railroad Cottage Historic District, Historic district in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
The Railroad Cottage Historic District is a collection of eight residential buildings constructed between 1900 and 1912 near Casino Center Boulevard. These modest homes feature simple architecture typical of early 20th-century worker housing in the West.
The San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad built around 64 houses for workers in Las Vegas starting around 1900. Eight of these neighboring cottages were officially designated as a historic district in 1987 to preserve their heritage.
The cottages reflect how railroad workers and their families lived in early 20th-century Las Vegas. The homes show the daily conditions and domestic routines of people who helped build the region's foundation.
Visitors can see three original cottages at Springs Preserve as part of the Boomtown 1905 exhibit, where they are restored and open for viewing. Another relocated cottage stands at the Clark County Museum, offering additional insight into this period through museum interpretation.
Only one cottage remains at its original location on Casino Center Boulevard, standing alone as the neighborhood transformed around it. This solitary survivor provides a rare glimpse into how the railroads shaped Las Vegas in its earliest years.
