Wee Kirk O' the Heather, Wedding chapel on Las Vegas Boulevard, United States
Wee Kirk O' the Heather was a chapel housed in a converted 1925 home on Las Vegas Boulevard, decorated with gold-satin wallpaper and traditional furnishings. The space offered simple wedding ceremonies in an intimate setting before the building was demolished in 2020.
The chapel was founded in 1940 when Mrs. J Edwards Webb began performing marriage ceremonies in the front room of her home, originally called Webb's Wedding Chapel. It became one of Las Vegas's first wedding chapels and helped shape the city's quick-marriage tradition.
This chapel became deeply woven into Las Vegas wedding traditions, symbolizing the quick and accessible approach to marriage ceremonies that the city pioneered. People came from everywhere to exchange vows in a simple, informal setting that felt personal despite its commercial nature.
The chapel was conveniently located near the marriage license bureau on Las Vegas Boulevard and was easy to reach on foot. It operated during set daytime and evening hours before closing and being demolished in October 2020.
Though often claimed as Las Vegas's first wedding chapel, the Graceland Wedding Chapel actually started operations one year earlier. This subtle rivalry shows how fast and competitive the city's wedding industry became in its earliest days.
