Sycamore Canyon Wilderness

Sycamore Canyon Wilderness is a protected area in Coconino National Forest in Arizona. The landscape features dramatic red sandstone cliffs, white limestone walls, and dense groves of sycamore trees covering over 14,000 acres.

The area was formally designated as wilderness in 1972 through federal legislation. This protection established one of the region's most important preserved natural corridors.

Native American artifacts and rock art throughout the canyon walls provide evidence of ancient settlements and traditional practices in this region.

Visitors should bring plenty of water and navigation tools since the wilderness has no developed facilities or marked trails. Proper preparation is essential for safely moving through the remote landscape.

The canyon spans across three different national forests: Coconino, Kaibab, and Prescott. This unusual path creates a surprising transition from desert to forest conditions within one continuous area.
