Lyon County Courthouse, National Register of Historic Places courthouse in Yerington, Nevada.
The Lyon County Courthouse is a three-story Beaux-Arts building in Yerington, Nevada, with brick walls and terracotta decorations on columns, windows, and doors. The structure spans approximately 90 feet in length and 80 feet in width.
Architect Frederick DeLongchamps designed the building in 1911, and Reno contractor Ward Bros. completed construction in 1912. A western expansion was added in 1936 to provide extra office space for staff.
The building represents early 20th-century public architecture in Nevada and shows how the region designed its government centers. It embodies the compromise between rival towns that both wanted to host the county seat.
The courthouse is located in downtown Yerington and is easy to reach on foot. The building is clearly visible from the street and offers a good view of the town's public architecture.
The building is the tallest brick and concrete structure in Yerington, with an uninterrupted wall surface that rises from the base to the roofline. This distinctive verticality makes it a notable landmark in the town's skyline.
