Salt Palace, convention center in Downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, United States
The Salt Palace is a large convention center in downtown Salt Lake City with over 500,000 square feet of space. It features nine large halls, a 45,000 square foot grand ballroom, 14 meeting rooms, and multiple foyers that can be arranged flexibly for different types of events and gatherings.
The first Salt Palace opened in 1899 as an entertainment venue built from wood and decorated with salt rocks, but it burned down in 1910. An arena replaced it in 1969 and hosted basketball and hockey games until 1994, when construction began on the current convention center that opened in 1996.
Two underground parking garages provide around 1,000 parking spaces for visitors who arrive by car. The center offers high-speed internet, professional audio and video services, and loading docks for equipment, with staff available to help guests navigate the large complex.
The building features one of the largest solar panel systems installed on its roof since 2012, providing a significant portion of the center's electricity needs. This renewable energy project represents a major sustainability effort that has become part of the facility's modern operations.
