Salt Lake Tabernacle organ, Pipe organ in Salt Lake Tabernacle, Utah, United States
The Salt Lake Tabernacle organ contains 11,623 pipes ranging from 32 feet to three-quarters of an inch in length across 147 speaking stops.
Joseph Ridges constructed the original organ between 1863 and 1867 using local materials, starting with 700 pipes powered by hand-pumped bellows.
The organ accompanies the 360-member Tabernacle Choir during weekly radio and television broadcasts of 'Music & The Spoken Word'.
Five professional organists perform daily 30-minute recitals at noon, while two full-time technicians maintain the instrument throughout the year.
Four stops from the 1867 original instrument remain functional in the current organ, connecting modern performances with the earliest days of operation.
