Bergli Hut, Mountain hut in Bern, Switzerland
The Bergli Hut is a mountain shelter in the Bernese Alps situated on a rocky ridge of the Eismeer glacier at the eastern base of the Eiger. It stands at approximately 3,300 meters elevation and serves climbers as a base for ascents on the surrounding peaks.
The shelter was founded in 1869 and has served mountaineers as a starting point for expeditions in the high Alps since then. It became part of the Alpine climbing infrastructure in Switzerland from its beginning.
The Swiss Alpine Club manages this structure, maintaining traditional mountain hospitality standards while supporting Alpine climbing activities in the region.
Getting there demands climbing experience and proper equipment since all routes cross glacier terrain. The shortest access begins at Jungfraujoch station and is suitable only for trained mountaineers.
Located near the border of Valais canton, the hut provides accommodation at one of the highest elevations among Swiss mountain shelters.
