Capanna Scaletta SAT, Mountain hut in Bleniotal region, Ticino, Switzerland
Capanna Scaletta SAT is a mountain hut in the Bleniotal region of Ticino, located at 2205 meters elevation near the western entrance to the Greina plateau. The building contains three dormitory rooms with 56 beds total and a separate winter room accommodating 12 people during the cold season.
The original building was constructed in 1948 to serve hikers in this alpine region. The facility expanded significantly in 1995 and underwent further renovations in 2008 and 2009.
The hut operates on alpine principles where guests gather at shared tables to eat and exchange stories about their mountain experiences. This daily routine creates a special connection between visitors from different backgrounds.
Access to the refuge requires mountain hiking and is weather dependent, particularly in winter months when snow makes trails more challenging. Visitors should bring proper gear and check conditions before traveling.
The hut serves as a base for mountaineers starting their ascents to higher peaks like Piz Medel and Piz Vial. These more technical routes appeal to serious climbers who prepare their expeditions from this location.
