Provo Third Ward Chapel and Amusement Hall

Provo Third Ward Chapel and Amusement Hall, historic building in Provo, Utah, United States

The Provo Third Ward Chapel and Amusement Hall is a building in Provo, Utah, constructed between 1901 and 1903 featuring Prairie School architecture. An adjoining hall was added in 1913 and expanded in 1926 to accommodate dances, performances, and community events.

Architect Richard C. Watkins designed the building, with its cornerstone laid in 1901 and completion in 1903. During World War II, it served as barracks for soldiers training at Brigham Young University.

This building served as the heart of community life in Provo for generations. People gathered here for dances, celebrations, and worship, making it a vital place where neighbors connected and shared important moments together.

The building is conveniently located and easily reached from downtown Provo. The site is quiet and inviting for visitors who wish to observe its historical architecture and learn about local heritage.

The building was repurposed as barracks during World War II and later transformed into a dance club, restaurant, and school for troubled youth. This succession of uses demonstrates how adaptable the structure has been across more than a century.
