George M. Brown House

The George M. Brown House is a two-story residence in Provo featuring Greek Revival style elements including steep gables, wooden tracery, and decorative bargeboards. The structure displays the architectural details typical of this period with carefully crafted ornamental features throughout.

The house was built in the 1880s on property that originated from Abraham O. Smoot. It served as a residence for one of the wives of lawyer George M. Brown.

The residence reflects the architectural evolution of Utah houses, combining Victorian design elements with mid-1800s pioneer home characteristics.

The building is now divided into apartments and used as residential housing. Its historic status is maintained despite the modern use of the space.

After completing the house, Brown relocated to Colonia Díaz in Mexico to operate a store. He left Utah in 1885 and never returned to the state.
