Centennial Carillon Tower, Bell tower at Brigham Young University, Provo, US.
The Centennial Carillon Tower is a bell tower at Brigham Young University that houses 52 bells of varying sizes, ranging from 25 to 4,730 pounds. These bells are arranged in a tower about 97 feet tall and are played by carillonneurs using a keyboard located beneath the belfry.
The tower opened in 1975 and was a gift marking the 100th anniversary of Brigham Young University. Architect Fred L. Markham designed the structure, which has since become a landmark on the campus.
The bells play a melody based on the hymn 'Come, Come, Ye Saints' at every hour and ring during campus events, graduations, and special occasions. This regular sound shapes the daily rhythm of the university and connects the community through these recurring musical moments.
Reaching the bells requires climbing about 99 steps of a spiral staircase plus 11 ladder rungs. Those wanting to see the bells and enjoy the view should be prepared for a steep climb in tight spaces.
This is the only bell tower owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints among all its religious buildings worldwide. This exclusivity makes it a special place within the church's architectural heritage.
